Hi,

can I move a OEM sql server standard licence to a dedicated server (rented hardware)?

Is a licence change required/possible?

You have SQL Server licenses only "on paper", nowhere else in the system.

You have to make sure on your own, that you are correct and fully licensed.

    Hi @Wellcode Software Abuelkomboz ,

This is a forum for tech issues, i am not familiar with license. I search this online, hope this could help you.

OEM SQL Server licenses are typically tied to the hardware they were originally installed on and cannot be transferred to a different server. This means that if you have an OEM SQL Server Standard license, you cannot move it to a dedicated server (rented hardware)

According to Microsoft licensing policies, OEM licenses are generally non-transferable. They are meant to be used on the original hardware they were installed on. If you need to move your SQL Server to a new server, you would need to purchase a new license or consider other licensing options such as volume licensing or retail licenses, which offer more flexibility in terms of transferability.

For SQL server license issue , suggest you contacting a Microsoft sales partner or licensing expert directly. Call (1-800-426-9400), Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM PST to speak directly to Microsoft licensing specialist. Or you can go to Volume Licensing Support Contact support. Please choose region/language and call. People there will help you more effectively.
