Is blob storage replication transmitted over Microsoft network?

Hello,

we are looking to replicate Blob objects from a Storage account from one tenant to another in the same region. To do this, we want to use Blob Storage replication or VNet peering.

In order to avoid operational toil, we think of Blob Storage replication as the best option. However, we are not able to find in the documentation any evidence that this replication happens through Microsoft internal network.

Doc: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/storage/blobs/object-replication-overview

Thank you

    Hi Manuel Diaz Sola,
Welcome to Microsoft Q&A Forum, Thank you for posting your query here!

Using Blob Storage replication is a really good way to avoid operational toil. According to the documentation, object replica copy prevents blobs asynchronously between the source storage account and the destination account. This system is designed to improve data quality, reduce latency, and increase computing efficiency.

The documentation doesn't explicitly address this with your specific concerns about whether replication occurs through Microsoft's internal network, Azure’s infrastructure typically ensures that data replication within the same region uses Microsoft’s internal network to maintain high performance and security standards

    Hi Manuel Diaz Sola,
While the specific documentation for Blob Storage replication in the same region using Microsoft’s internal network is not explicitly described, there is general information about using Azure’s internal network for data replication,
Example, Azure’s documentation on cluster-to-cluster storage replication within the same region mentions that the replication process leverages Azure’s internal network infrastructure. This implies that similar principles would apply to Blob Storage replication within the same region.
