My Microsoft 365 E5 Developer subscription expired unexpectedly

Hello,

I am a member of the Microsoft 365 Developer Program and have been actively using my E5 Developer subscription for development and testing purposes. Despite my regular activity, my subscription has expired and I was not granted a renewal.

I would like to understand:

  • Why my subscription was not renewed even though I was actively using it.
  • What specific activities are considered valid for renewal.
  • Whether there is any way to appeal or request reactivation.

I appreciate any guidance or support you can provide.

Thank you!

    Hi @An Le

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

We understand it can be very frustrating and confusing when your Microsoft 365 Developer E5 subscription expires without being renewed. Before you answer the questions, please take note of the following important point:

After a developer subscription expires, the data is typically retained for a limited grace period (often 30-60 days) before it is permanently deleted. I strongly recommend that you back up any important files, data, or configurations from your expired tenant as soon as possible to avoid data loss.

If you still want to continue with the program, the official path forward is to sign up for a new Microsoft 365 Developer subscription from the official program website.

According to the official Microsoft 365 Developer Program FAQ, Microsoft utilizes a set of algorithms and telemetry to monitor activity within E5 developer subscriptions. This data is used to determine whether to renew or deactivate any given subscription. As moderators, we do not have sufficient permissions to access the evaluation process, or any issues related to subscriptions.

Based on my experience, the official support channels for E5 developer subscriptions are typically paid services, and unfortunately, there is generally no way to renew an expired subscription or recover a suspended account. I understand this is inconvenient, but my strong recommendation is to take immediate action: back up all your files before the account is permanently deleted, create a new tenant and operate it in line with the evaluation criteria publicly provided by Microsoft, which you can find here: Terms and conditions | Microsoft Learn
