Thank you for reaching out through the Microsoft Q&A forum.
I’d like to offer a suggestion that might enhance your workflow. While I haven’t had the chance to test it in a full Remote Desktop (RDP) or virtual machine environment, this recommendation is based on documentation and research. Microsoft Teams doesn’t currently include a native feature to keep chat windows always on top. However, you can achieve this functionality using a third-party tool like PowerToys with its Always on Top feature. While this behavior can be limited in Remote Desktop (RDP) sessions, PowerToys may still work effectively if installed correctly on either the host or client machine. Here are the steps:
- Install PowerToys on the machine where the window you wish to pin is running. (Administrator privileges are required for installation.)
- Enable the “Always on Top” feature within PowerToys.
- Use the shortcut Win + Ctrl + T to pin the desired window.
- If you are working with multiple monitors, it is recommended to enable “Show PowerToys in system tray” for easier access and control.
Additional Notes:
- PowerToys only affects windows on the machine where it is installed.
- If you are using the web version of Teams, consider popping out the chat window to make it easier to pin.
- If the default shortcut does not work, you can customize it in the PowerToys settings.
We hope the details provided will assist you effectively.
