Hi @Michael Sinnwell
Thank you so much for reaching out. I completely understand how incredibly frustrating it is when apps like Mail and Calendar keep popping up unexpectedly, especially when you don't even use them. I’m really sorry you’ve had to deal with this hassle. I’d be happy to help clear things up and walk you through a simple way to resolve it.
Just to clarify, there are two different apps often mistaken for each other in situations like this. Microsoft Outlook is part of the larger Microsoft 365 suite (alongside Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Unfortunately, it can’t be uninstalled by itself; it comes bundled with the entire Office suite.
On the other hand, the Mail and Calendar app is a built-in part of Windows, and it can be removed completely without affecting any Office applications. From what you’ve described, it sounds like the Mail and Calendar app is the one popping up, and we can definitely help you remove it.
Let’s go through a few simple ways to stop those pop-ups and remove the app:
Prevent Outlook from starting automatically
Sometimes, Outlook might be set to launch on startup, which can bring up its mail and calendar features too. Here's how to check and turn it off:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the Task Manager.
- Click on the Startup apps tab, look for anything related to Microsoft Outlook or Microsoft Office in the list.
- If you find it, click Disable to prevent Outlook from launching automatically when you start your computer.
Uninstall from the Settings page
- Select Start, then go to Settings (or press Windows key + I) > Apps > Apps & features.
- In the search box, type Mail and Calendar and then click the Uninstall button.
This should remove both Mail and Calendar from your device, so Outlook can stay nicely contained without any interference.
Use PowerShell for a more thorough uninstall (Advanced)
If the steps above don’t fully remove the app, this PowerShell command is a more direct option that often works well for built-in apps.
- Right-click the Start menu and select Windows PowerShell (Run as Administrator), then copy and paste the command below:
Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps | Remove-AppxPackage
- Press Enter and wait a few seconds. Once it’s finished, you can go back to Apps & features to double-check that Mail and Calendar is no longer listed.
I really hope one of these methods helps remove the Mail and Calendar app and makes things feel a bit more in control again.
