Open Dialog box on an unsaved excel file doesn't go away

Open Dialog box on an unsaved excel file doesn't go away, no matter what I do. This is really annoying as I have unsaved work and will have to close the excel and would loose the most recent changes. It always come back no matter if I press "Esc" or "Cancel" or "X"

    Hi Ankit

    If you press Alt + F4 does that Open File Dialog, close?

    It doesn't, I just have to close the entire Excel.exe from task manager. This happens when I try to save an unsaved file

    Hi Ankit,

    Can you save your changes and use Excel normally now? If not, to check if this issue is related to Office add-ins, please launch Excel in safe mode to see the outcome. If this issue doesn't happen in safe mode, please click File>Options>Add-ins>To disable Add-ins one by one to check which one caused this case.

    If this issue still exists, please share with me more info about this issue:

    1. Screenshot about the detailed Version number of your Office(File>Account>Product Information) and OS(Win+R>type CMD>OK).
    2. Does this issue happen to all workbooks newly new created one or related ones?

    This issue is intermittent and happens to all excel files (I can't use any of them) moreover it isn't reproducible. I can't access add-in at the time of this problem that means I may never tell you which add-in is causing the problem unless you have log files sitting somewhere containing this info

    If you meet that issue again, I'd like to suggest you try online repair to see the outcome. You can follow the steps below to do that:

    1. Click Win+E to open file explorer.
    2. Type this path to open app list: Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features.
    3. Right-click Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus>Change>click Online Repair.

    Please have a try and share with me your result when you meet that issue again. Besides, to protect your data from loss, I'd like to suggest you store your workbooks in OneDrive.
