Finding specific messages or threads using search tools within Microsoft Teams chat history
Dear @Mark Jordaan,
Deleted Microsoft Teams messages and files may still be verifiable in certain admin-controlled scenarios, even if they are no longer visible in the Teams chat itself. In particular, your organization’s IT Admin, Compliance, or Microsoft Purview administrator may be able to investigate this through Microsoft Purview eDiscovery, depending on your organization’s retention settings, legal holds, and how the original content was stored. To move forward, if you are just an end-user, I would recommend contacting your organization’s IT administrator as soon as possible and asking them to:
Go to Microsoft Purview > Solutions > eDiscovery
In the panel > choose Create case
In the created case > choose > Create a search
In the search > choose Add data sources
Then, search for your colleague's name/ email address in the Search box > Search > choose it > Save and Close

Microsoft also provides audit logging for Teams activities, which can help confirm that certain actions took place, provided auditing was enabled at the time and the audit retention period still includes the relevant dates. However, audit logs are generally more useful for confirming activity than for reconstructing full deleted message content. For actual message evidence, eDiscovery remains the stronger and more appropriate path. Search the audit log for events in Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Learn
I hope the information shared helps point you in the right direction.
