Visual Studio installer VisualCpp.redist.14 problem and occasional BSOD

Hello,

i was trying to install Visual Studio 2022. The setup suddenly stops at installing microsoft.visualcpp.redist.14 and asks me to select the path where the installer files are located.

when i press okay it tells me that the path couldnt be found, i was checking the permissions of C:\Program Data\Package Cache and did the following:

• set read/write permission on folder and subfolders
• remove write protection
• checked if the folder existed which it didnt

notable things:

• My Windows 11 installation occasionally Bluescreens after finishing up the repair installation process with the Error code: CRITICAL PROCESS DIED
• The first time while installing Visual Studio my Logitech G Hub Driver stopped working because it told me that it didnt find .net 3.5 or something simillar around those lines (even tho it was working before)
• I Installed MASM 32 SDK the day before (probably has nothing to do with it but i thought i would note it)
• I tried to manually install Visual C++ 2022 runtime with the download links from microsoft. The x64 version installed succesfully while the x86 installer gives me the same error messages as Visual Studio Installer (screenshot attached below) the log files from the Visual Studio Installer can be found here: b6308174-9011-42d9-b85d-b190f7f6f2e6.txt

My Windows is in german so im sorry for the german UI and logs, if translation is needed i can help with it.

I tried to follow the other articles on the internet but the answers didnt seem to solve my issue and i didnt hear of some people having BSODs while installing. Does anyone have a clue as to why this happened? If someone tells me how i can extract the BSOD logs/dumps i can also attach these if needed.

Have you tried to use this troubleshooter tool and uninstall following runtime?

Microsoft Visual C++ xxxx Xxx Additional Runtime - xx.xx.xxxxx

Microsoft Visual C++ xxxx Xxx Debug Runtime - xx.xx.xxxxx

Microsoft Visual C++ xxxx Xxx Minimum Runtime - xx.xx.xxxxx

If you check carefully about the error message, you might find that the error message mentioned another version of the runtime. See following picture:

As you can see, the runtime that you are installing is version 14.40.33810. The error message indicates that the 14.24.28127 version of the runtime cannot be installed/uninstalled, and the folder failed to be found/accessed to. This causes a confliction.

Using above troubleshooter tool can completely remove the previous installed runtime/package. After removing the previous runtimes, you can reinstall the new package.

About the bluescreen issue, it usually indicates that there’s something wrong with the system or the hardware(basically hardware). Installing this package should not cause bluescreen issues. You might need to check your hardware(maybe GPU, memory…), drive, and make sure that there’s no Windows Update issues(update Windows OS if possible).
