    Hi michael buro,

Keep your system up to date and also enable the get the latest updates as soon as they arrive, MS still controls which features you get and when so sometimes it's a waiting game, Canary edition so far this year has been slow to get released as far as new updates.

Also changing from Canary to Beta or Dev requires a clean install.

    Hi michael buro,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A forum. I completely understand why this would be confusing. After updating to Windows 11 version 26H1 (Build 28000.1), it’s natural to expect the new Start menu changes you may have seen announced or shared online, and it can be frustrating when they don’t appear on your system.

I’d like to reassure you that nothing is wrong with your device or the update. The 26H1 builds in the Canary channel are mainly focused on behind‑the‑scenes platform work, such as hardware support and core system changes, rather than visible UI updates. New features like Start menu improvements are usually introduced first in the Dev or Beta channels and are also rolled out gradually, so not every device receives them at the same time.

For reference, Microsoft explains this directly in the official Insider release notes for Build 28000 here: Announcing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 28000 (Canary Channel)

If your main goal is to try new features as early as possible, switching to the Dev or Beta Insider channel would be the best option. Otherwise, you can stay on your current build and the features will appear automatically once they’re enabled for your device.

I know this rollout approach isn’t always obvious, and I appreciate your patience. If you’d like help choosing the right Insider channel or have any other questions, please feel free to let me know. I'm happy to help.

If you are running Windows 11, version 26H1, Build 28000.1 and are not receiving updates like the updated Start menu, there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

    1. Check for Updates: Go to Settings > Windows Update and click on "Check for updates". This will ensure that your system is searching for any available updates.
    2. Update Settings: Make sure that your update settings are configured to automatically download and install updates. Sometimes, settings may prevent updates from being applied.
    3. Windows Update Troubleshooter: Run the Windows Update troubleshooter to identify and fix any issues that might be preventing updates from being installed.
    4. Manual Update Options: If updates are still not appearing, consider using the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or downloading the latest ISO from the Microsoft Software Download page to manually update your system.
    5. Contact Support: If you continue to experience issues, contacting Microsoft Support may provide additional assistance.

Keeping your system updated is crucial for receiving new features and security updates, so it's important to resolve any issues preventing updates from being installed.
