After long debugging-sessions of my WebView2 installation I finally think I found the source of my issues. Maybe also yours?

    My Symptoms:

    • New Outlook, Teams and Taskbar sometimes hanging or restarting (became worse the last weeks)
    • Screenshot utilities (Greenshot) not working properly

After debugging with my ICT-support, undestanding, that the common component is WebView2 usage and the coincidence, that I was not using my docking-station for a while suddenly not being able to reproduce the issue - my presumption now is:

WebView2 has issues with GPU-rendering on two GPUs (integrated Intel Arc + the SMI USB GPU (DisplayLink)). As soon as I connect the 2nd monitor to my Dock, which is then using DisplayLink in addition to the DisplayPort driven 1st monitor, my problem becomes reproduceable.

So far (one workday), with the 2nd monitor disabled or attached directly to the notebook's HDMI - WebView2 is stable.

    Regards, Thorsten

    Hi @david doherty

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum

Regarding your issue, this usually means the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime on the system isn’t working correctly. Outlook (especially New Outlook), Teams, and several other apps rely on WebView2 to display parts of their interface. When WebView2 is missing, corrupted, or mismatched, those apps may fail to open, show blank screens, or not load at all.

Here are a few steps you can try:

    1. Repair WebView2 Runtime and Microsoft Edge
    • Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps
    • Find Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime
    • Select Modify > Repair
    • Restart the PC
    • Go to Settings > Apps > Microsoft Edge
    • Select Advanced options > Repair
    • Restart afterward
    • For more details, please refer to: Repair apps and programs in Windows
    1. The "Evergreen" Reinstall
    • Go to the Official Microsoft WebView2 Download Page
    • Look for the Evergreen Standalone Installer.
    • User's image
    • Select x64 (for most modern PCs) and download it.
    • Important: Right-click the downloaded file and select Run as Administrator.

Hopefully it will help work with your issue and if you have any other questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask.

If Outlook and other applications are not working due to a WebView2 problem, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can take:

    1. Check WebView2 Runtime Installation: Ensure that the WebView2 Runtime is installed on your device. If it is not installed, you may need to install it manually. A bad update could sometimes leave your device without the WebView2 runtime.
    2. Reinstall WebView2 Runtime: You can reinstall the WebView2 Runtime through the Device Portal if it is missing. You can find the runtime's MSIX package to download and install it.
    3. Verify Dependencies: If you are using a Validation OS, make sure that the "WebView Dependency" feature was included in your OS image. This is crucial for the initialization of WebView2 applications.
    4. Check for Updates: Ensure that your Microsoft 365 Apps are updated to the latest version, as updates may include fixes for WebView2-related issues.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the issues related to WebView2 and get your applications working again.
