Welcome Connie Teter to the Q&A forum!
I see you’re looking for a way to add a trusted folder or program to the allowed (exclusions) list in Microsoft Security so it can run without being restricted by security protection. In addition to the methods Q&A Assist has given, you can also try the method below:
This method applies to individual files, entire folders, or specific app executables, and is commonly used when Microsoft Defender is blocking known‑safe items.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Under Virus & threat protection settings, select Manage settings.
- Scroll down to Exclusions, then select Add or remove exclusions.
- Select Add an exclusion, then choose one of the following:
- File – for a single executable (e.g. app.exe)
- Folder – to allow everything inside a folder
- Process – allow a process by name
- Browse to the file or folder and confirm.
Hope this helps. Feel free to post back if you need further assistance or run into any issues.
