Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Good day ADG
Thank you for sharing your detailed questions, I'm here to follow up on your concerns.
Q1: Since my subscription is no longer active, is there any way to restore my OneDrive files to the day before this happened?
Unfortunately, the “Restore your OneDrive” (point‑in‑time restore) feature is only available to active Microsoft 365 subscribers. If your subscription has already expired, this option is not available, even if you sign in to the same account.
Q2: If the online Recycle Bin appears empty, does a non-subscribed account still have access to the second-stage recycle bin or any back-end recovery options through Microsoft support?
For personal (home) OneDrive accounts, there is only a single Recycle Bin where deleted items are retained for up to about 30 days before they are permanently removed. Once the Recycle Bin has been emptied, the files are considered permanently deleted and can no longer be recovered through OneDrive.
You may also be wondering if Microsoft support has any “back-end” recovery options. Unfortunately, once items have been permanently removed from the Recycle Bin, Microsoft support does not have access to restore files beyond what is available within the recycle bin or built‑in recovery features as these depend on strict retention limits built into the service.
Here's a few things worth checking:
- Check your computer’s local Recycle Bin / Trash (if not already emptied).
- Look for copies on any other synced devices that may not have updated yet.
- Check if you have backups (File History, Time Machine, external drives, etc.).
Hope this could clarify things. Feel free to post back if you have additional questions!
Best regards.
