Remove Items from Projects

The Copilot Projects feature is very useful, but currently project membership is one‑directional. Conversations can be added to a project, but they cannot be removed without deleting the project item. This limits flexibility when reorganizing long‑term work.

Request:

Please add a “Remove from Project” option so that any conversation can be detached from a project and returned to the main conversation list without deleting it.

Why this matters:

• Enables flexible reorganization

• Prevents accidental data loss

• Matches user expectations for folder‑like behavior

• Makes Projects more comfortable and usable for long‑term workflows

Note:

This request is part of a 3‑item usability improvement set for Copilot Projects.

    Dear @Mark Ava

Thank you for taking the time to share this thoughtful feedback. Your scenario makes complete sense, especially when managing long‑running or evolving work across multiple Copilot Projects.

Since this behavior is part of the product’s current limitations, the best way to drive improvement is to raise this feedback directly with the Microsoft product team.

In this case, to ensure your feedback reaches the right teams, I highly recommend submitting your feedback directly to Microsoft Ideas · Community, where our product development team can know your requirements and ideas for product improvements. If enough users raise ticket for the same idea, Microsoft may consider adding this feature in the future.

Note: As Microsoft Community moderators, please note that we are not involved in product design decisions and do not have direct access to the development roadmap, we want to assure you that your feedback has been acknowledged and is valued.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. If you have any other questions, please feel free to reach out. I'm looking forward to your reply.

The provided context does not describe a way to remove individual conversations from Copilot Projects or to configure a “Remove from Project” option. It also does not document any extensibility or settings that would allow changing this behavior.

No supported workaround for detaching a conversation from a project without deleting the project item is described in the context.
