Installing OPC PLC simulator after the installation of Azure IoT Operations

By default the OPC PLC simulator doesn't get installed on deploying Azure IoT Operations to the Kubernetes cluster. Is there a way to install it manually afterwards?

Yes. I did check this doc. But this doc assumes that the OPC PLC simulator is already running, by trying to get its name with

OPC_PLC_POD=$(kubectl get pod -l app.kubernetes.io/name=opcplc -n azure-iot-operations -o jsonpath="{.items[0].metadata.name}")

Since the standard Azure IoT Operations with default settings won't install the OPC PLC simulator the guidance in the doc doesn't help. As already asked before. Is there a way to install it manually?

I'm afraid, I haven't found any documentation on manual installation of OPC PLC simulator. It is installed by default.

Could you try setup another AIO in a different cluster (local maybe with K3s or Kind) and compare the resources related to the simulator?

Also, check Known issues: Azure IoT Operations - Azure IoT Operations Preview | Microsoft Learn and see if that helps.

That doesn't help at all. And I know that the OPC PLC simulator will be installed if you specify the according command line argument on using 'az iot ops init'.

After doing a helm upgrade for opc-ua-broker with --set opcPlcSimulation.deploy=true it now works for me

After doing a helm upgrade for opc-ua-broker with --set opcPlcSimulation.deploy=true it now works for me

Juergen, can you elaborate on how to use helm to deploy the OPC PLC simulator?

AFAIK there is not mention of helm charts in the AIO docs.

First do a:

helm list -n azure-iot-operations

to get the correct version. Then do a

helm upgrade opc-ua-broker --namespace azure-iot-operations --reuse-values --set opcPlcSimulation.deploy=true oci://mcr.microsoft.com/azureiotoperations/opcuabroker/helmchart/microsoft.iotoperations.opcuabroker --version 0.2.0-preview
