Hi, have a few users getting this error ''The permission on this file was updated and no longer have right to view this file. If you previously made changes to this file, they may not be saved.'' when trying to access files through shared links via the desktop app , the file opens fine when opening via browser. When checking the permissions on the file itself, the user is there with edit permissions?a desktop

    Hi @Kevin Egan,

Try disconnecting the Microsoft 365 account from Windows via the steps below:

    1. In Word (or whichever app is causing the trouble) sign out of all your accounts by clicking on your user profile in the top-right of the app. Then close the app.
    2. In Windows Settings, disconnect your Office 365 account. You do this in Settings...Accounts...Access work or school... then clicking on the problem account and choosing 'disconnect this account'
    3. Restart your app and log back in with your Office 365 credentials. You'll be asked if you want to apply these credentials to all your apps. Go with the default option unless you know you have a strong reason not to. Doing so will, in the background, reconnect your account in Windows settings as well.

Please let us know if there is any progress after these steps. Thanks!

Thanks for this, it doesn't seem to be this, it only happens on one site , on every document library, for every user and only from sharing links when the user receives the sharing link and then tries to open file in desktop app. I've tried creating new document library on the site and sending sharing link and it still happens.

    *Found out the issue

In site collection features on the site the feature 'Limited access user permission lockdown'' was enabled - on de activating this the error message disappeared

    Hi @Kevin Egan,

I'm glad to hear you solve the problem, if you have any issue about SharePoint, you are welcome to raise a ticket in this forum.

By the way, since the Microsoft Q&A community has a policy that "The question author cannot accept their own answer. They can only accept answers by others.". and according to the scenario introduced here: Answering your own questions on Microsoft Q&A, I would make a brief summary of this thread:

[Error when users try to access shared links via APP]

    Issue Symptom:

A few users getting this error ''The permission on this file was updated and no longer have right to view this file. If you previously made changes to this file, they may not be saved.'' when trying to access files through shared links via the desktop app, the file opens fine when opening via browser.

    Current status:

Solved by enabling "Limited access user permission lockdown" feature in site collection features.

It would be appreciated if you can click the "Accept as Answer" button for this summary to archive this thread, and this can make it easier for other community members to see the useful information when reading this thread.

Thanks for your contribution to this community!
