Updating "Shapes" in PowerPoint

As a powerpoint designer currently in the design process, I want to be able to edit a logo that is used on many slides in many different positions on the slides so that a single edit to the logo will update all the logos on all the slides that utilize this logo (my logo is a "group" in powerpoint comprised of an image of a dog and some text).

I found that utilizing master slides was cumbersome as my logo is on many different positions in my slides (sometimes the logo is in the center of a slide, on another slide - the logo is on the left).

Adding a "storyboard shape" was great - but I can't update the shape...

    Hello Deb,

For better assistance, we would like to know more information about your concern.

    • What do you mean when you say that you cannot update the shape?
    • How did you try to create the logos on each of the slides on your PowerPoint?
    • Are you using VBA or any third party program on PowerPoint?

    Regards.

Thanks - so let's just say that if I start making my slides and my logo is on every single slide.... now what happens if I decide to change the logo?  Do I have to change the logo on every single slide?  I want to avoid doing that (that's cumbersome!) - I can't use master slides because master slides assumes the image / logo / "shape" is in the same position for every slide... right?

To answer your second question, I created the logo on one slide then I copied and pasted it on every slide that I wanted to use it after (or I added it to my storyboard shapes).

I am not using any vba....

When you go to insert the logo, use Insert | Picture

Select the picture you want then instead of clicking INSERT, click the downward pointing triangle next to it.

Choose INSERT AND LINK from the dropdown menu that appears.

Then if you change the picture you've linked to, PPT will update itself when you open the file.  However, since the picture is also inserted (ie, embedded), if the linked picture isn't available, PPT will use the most recent embedded version.

    Hi Steve,

Per my original post - the issue is my logo is actually a group of shapes in powerpoint... so if I implemented your solution - I would have to create my logo in a separate powerpoint - then export it to an image.  When I update the logo I would have to open up that powerpoint again to export it into an image again.  I'm looking for an easier solution if possible.

The other way to update the shapes on your PowerPoint aside from utilizing the master slides is to perform the suggested steps that Steve Rindsberg provided.

We appreciate all opinions and suggestions. We suggest that you send a feedback so we can take note of this feature for future updates.
