    Hi Alice Metcalfe

Thank you for reaching out through the Microsoft Q&A forum regarding the email sending limit you are experiencing in Outlook.

As part of Microsoft 365 Exchange Online policies, your mailbox is subject to sending and throttling limits to protect the service from spam or compromised account. These limits are enforced by the server rather than Outlook itself, and they may vary depending on account activity.

Usually, new accounts can have stricter sending limits initially, which may adjust over time based on your email usage patterns. It’s important to avoid sending a large volume of emails in a short period or using bulk BCC that resembles spam-like behavior, as this can trigger throttling or even temporary restrictions on your account.

For more information, please refer to the following official Microsoft documentation:

Exchange Online limits - Service Descriptions | Microsoft Learn

Message rate limits and throttling | Microsoft Learn

However, here are some workarounds you can try:

    • If you’re sending to many internal users, you can consider creating a Microsoft 365 Group, mail-enabled security group, or distribution list, and then send one message to the group - Microsoft 365 handles delivery internally and does not count it as multiple outbound sends.
    • If you regularly need to send high volumes of emails (like newsletters or notifications), I recommend using Microsoft-approved bulk email solutions such as Dynamics 365 Marketing. (This approach sends messages slowly enough to stay under the throttling limit)

Additionally, to stay within the recipient-per-message limit of your subscription, I recommend dividing your contact list into smaller segments. By organizing your recipients into these manageable groups, you can send the same email to each group individually, ensuring compliance with the sending limits while maintaining effective communication.

I hope this information is helpful.

Please let me know if you need any assistance with these recommendations. I’m happy to assist!
