Files synced in OneDrive will not open - when moved to local storage they open without issues

I've come into an issue where out of nowhere majority (not all) files stored in OneDrive do not open anymore and display the following:

It seems to primarily effect Microsoft Office files. I've tried to uninstall OneDrive and delete the synced folders but it didn't seem to help. Any suggestions would be great!

    Hi @IDVN

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your experience with us. I understand how inconvenient this issue may have caused to you. Based on your description and the screenshots, the problem usually indicates incorrect permissions and account, incorrect file path, or OneDrive cache corruption.

To resolve the issue, please try the following steps:

    1. Check files permissions

Please confirm with the file owner with you have essential permissions to open it.

    1. Test on another device:

Attempt to open the file on a different computer. If it opens successfully, the problem might be with system settings.

    1. Rename the file

Some other users reported that they resolved the error by rename the issue workbook, download the workbook first and then open it from local Excel app.

    1. Repair Office
    • Right-click the Start button (lower-left corner) and select Installed apps on the pop-up menu.
