This is not linked to Exel but to PowerBI, which I can not find in your tags unfortunately. MS is shwitching from BING maps to AZURE maps in powerBI at the moment. All users in our company using PowerBI (me included) are pushing out as long as possible the switch to the new Azure maps because:

  1. the performance is terrible. The same visual which took 10s to display in the old solution takes 1 minute with the new solution on the same windows PC. That is a huge regression and simply not acceptable.
  2. The new solution crashes on the mobile phone after a certain time with an error message stating that the device may not have enough memory to load the report. WIth the old version this was no problem.
  3. less elegant visual representations (transparencies, colors, borders, etc...)
Is it possible to obtain from the editor a statement when they will have achieved a regression free quality with azure maps compared to bing maps

The transition from Bing Maps to Azure Maps in Power BI is indeed ongoing, and many users have reported performance issues and other challenges. Here are some key points regarding Azure Maps in Power BI:

    1. Performance Concerns: Users have noted that the performance of Azure Maps can be slower compared to Bing Maps. This is a known issue, and Microsoft is actively working on improving the performance of Azure Maps visuals in Power BI. However, specific timelines for performance improvements or a regression-free experience have not been publicly communicated.
    2. Mobile Compatibility: Some users have experienced crashes on mobile devices when using Azure Maps, particularly related to memory issues. This is also an area where Microsoft is focusing on enhancements to ensure better compatibility and stability.
    3. Visual Representation: Concerns regarding the aesthetic aspects of Azure Maps visuals, such as transparencies and color options, have been raised. Microsoft continues to develop Azure Maps, and user feedback is crucial in shaping future updates.

While there is no official statement from Microsoft regarding a specific timeline for achieving regression-free quality with Azure Maps compared to Bing Maps, it is advisable to keep an eye on updates from Microsoft and participate in feedback channels to express your concerns.
