My phone apps still seems to show them and allow additions - is the name changing ? while the finction and history still be intacked ?

    Hi @Wilf Gotzmann,

Based on your sharing, the behavior you are experiencing aligns with the Microsoft current rollout for Planner on the web:

    • The web version of Planner has been redesigned, and Microsoft is rolling out a new "Task chat" experience in basic plans on Planner for the web and Planner in Teams (desktop/web).
    • Old task comments are being retired on the web UI for those basic plans, so you may no longer see the old comments box in the browser.
    • Mobile is temporarily different: iOS/Android Planner and Planner in Teams mobile can still show the previous comments experience, while new Task chat messages are not visible on mobile yet.
    • Your old comment history is still accessible through a link that opens the old thread in Outlook.

Several changes are happening with Microsoft Planner on the web, and these can affect what is seen in the browser versus the mobile app.

    1. New Planner experience and naming changes
    • The “Tasks by Planner and To Do” app was renamed Planner in April 2024. This new Planner experience brings together work across plans, projects, and to-do lists.
    • The web version of Planner has been updated so that its experience aligns with the new Planner in Teams.
    • Project-related SKUs have also been renamed (for example, Project Plan 1 → Planner Plan 1), but existing functionality remains available under the new names.
    1. Project for the web and Planner for the web
    • Project for the web has been retired, and users are redirected to Planner for the web.
    • Users can access both basic and premium plans, plus familiar Project for the web capabilities, in both Planner in Teams and Planner for the web.
    1. Why comments may not be visible or editable in the browser
For Basic plans, there are specific reasons comments might not appear or be editable in Planner on the web:
    • If text is pasted into the Comment field from an email that includes “From:” and “Sent:” lines, everything from those fields onward may not appear when the task is reopened. Removing those fields before sending the comment, or attaching the email instead, avoids this.
    • If the organization is not using Exchange Online for the account, commenting on tasks in Planner may not be possible.
    • Comments cannot be added to Planner tasks in plans created by Connected Yammer Groups.
    • If a comment thread becomes forked (for example, replying directly to the group inbox email instead of commenting in Planner, or when more than 100 comments exist on a task), not all comments will load.

For Premium plans, comments are handled via Teams conversations for tasks, not the same comment mechanism as Basic plans.

    1. Impact on existing data and history
    • Existing functionality for Planner and the renamed Project Power App (now Planner Power App) is stated to remain unchanged; the rename does not remove task history.
    • Tasks and comments already stored in Planner remain available; changes are primarily around experience, naming, and where capabilities are accessed.

If comments work on the phone but not in the browser, it is likely related to one of the web limitations above (Exchange Online usage, plan type such as Connected Yammer Group, or a forked/large comment thread), rather than data loss. Checking whether the affected plan is Basic vs Premium and whether the account uses Exchange Online is key.
