Domain Verification issues

Hello,

I am trying to verify three newly added domains, but the verification is failing.

I checked the DNS records with multiple external lookup services, and the required TXT and MX records are visible correctly.

These same domains were verified in another Azure/Microsoft 365 tenant about a week ago. Could they still be linked to the previous tenant, preventing verification in the new one?

Since I only have a free subscription, how can I get support for this? The DNS configuration appears correct, so this seems to require investigation on Microsoft’s side.

    Hello @sinapu

A custom domain can only be verified in one Microsoft Entra ID / Microsoft 365 tenant at a time. Microsoft documentation and troubleshooting guidance specifically list domain conflicts with other tenants as a common reason for verification failures, even when the TXT record is correct: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/entra/fundamentals/add-custom-domain?context=azure%2Factive-directory%2Fusers-groups-roles%2Fcontext%2Fugr-context#common-verification-issues

Since you mentioned that these domains were successfully verified in another tenant only about a week ago, I would check whether they have been fully removed from the previous tenant. In some cases, the domain may still be associated with the old tenant (or a recently deleted tenant), which can prevent verification in the new one even though DNS ownership has been proven.

The exact error message shown during verification is important. For example, an error such as"DomainInUse" or"Domain is being used by an active tenant" generally indicates that Microsoft still sees the domain as belonging to another tenant.

    Could you share:

    • The exact verification error message or screenshot
    • Whether the domains were removed from the previous tenant before being added to the new one
    • Whether all three domains fail with the same error

That information would help me better understand the situation and give the appropriate support. And please note that this is a user‑to‑user support forum. Moderators here are not Microsoft Support, so we don’t have backend access or the ability to perform escalations. However, we’re happy to help with troubleshooting guidance and best‑practice recommendations.

    Looking forward to your response.
