Go to footnote command

After a footnote is added, the cursor remains in the footnote area. Right- or control-clicking there shows a command "Go to footnote," which, if selected, returns the cursor to the point in the text where the footnote reference number was inserted.

Is there any way to invoke this command by keystroke? I cannot find it among all commands in the "Customize keyboard" area.

Assign a keyboard shortcut to the ViewFootnoteArea command.

If the insertion point is in the text the shortcut jumps you to the next footnote in the footnote area.

If the insertion point is in a footnote the shortcut will jump to that footnote reference in the text.

Note that double-clicking a footnote number in the text or footnote area jumps to the associated spot.

    Hi @George Krompacky Jr,

    Welcome to Q&A Forum.

Regarding your question about "Got to footnote" keystroke, let me explain the current situation.

As of now, Microsoft Word for Mac does not provide a built-in keyboard shortcut for the "Go to Footnote" command that returns the cursor from the footnote area back to the reference point in the main text. This action is only accessible via right-click or control-click in the footnote area, as you've described

Unfortunately, this command also does not appear in the "Customize Keyboard" section of Word for Mac, meaning you can't assign a shortcut to it directly through Word's settings.

For now, the only possible workaround is Use Shift + F5. This shortcut cycles through the last three editing locations in the document. If you just inserted a footnote, pressing Shift + F5 might return you to the reference point.
