My laptop got multiple displays turned on (idk how, probably an accident) and the second display is set to be my main display. When I want to set the other one back, the button got greyed out. So whenever I want to use the first one, I have to manually change it everytime I turn on the devices. How do I eraase the second display for good?Screenshot 2025-11-16 155554

    Hello Qminhh ㅤ,

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum. It's my pleasure to help you today.

I understand that you are having issue with your main display. As I see on the photo, your computer display mode is currently set as "Show only on 2". In this state, the only active display will be set as main display by default. If you want to change the main display, you will need to choose "Extend these display". However, if you are currently don't have any second monitor, you shouldn't do it because it could make your settings unusable.

The "Ghost monitor" you see might be the result of a previous monitor connection that somehow got corrupted and stay on your computer. Please follow these steps to remove it.

    • Select the extra monitor on the Display settings and choose "Advanced Display", there you can check the model and name of the display.
    • Type "Device Manager" in the search bar and press Enter.
    • Expand "Monitor" section and remove all PnP generic monitor drivers you see.
    • Go to your main monitor manufacturer page and download the latest driver for the one you use.
    • When downloaded, install the driver and restart your PC.

Hi, I'm an independent advisor and welcome to Microsoft Q&A.

Let me help you with this problem.

I believe you do not have a physical monitor displayed?

It appears that you have a ghost monitor.

    Please try a hard reset.

Turn off the laptop and unplug the charger, then remove the battery if it is removable.

Press and hold the power button for 15–20 seconds to drain any remaining electrical charge.

Reconnect the battery and charger, then power the laptop back on.
