Follow these steps on the Windows 10 Pro device to troubleshoot Bluetooth connection problems:
- Run the Bluetooth troubleshooter
- Open the Get Help app and run the Bluetooth troubleshooter.
- Let it detect and fix common Bluetooth issues.
- If the issue remains, continue with the steps below.
- Make sure Bluetooth is turned on
- If the laptop has a physical Bluetooth switch, set it to On.
- In Windows 10, check from the taskbar:
- Select Action center (icon on the right side of the taskbar).
- If Bluetooth is not visible, select Expand.
- Select Bluetooth to turn it On. It should show Not connected if no device is paired.
- Or check from Settings:
- Select Start > Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices.
- Make sure Bluetooth is turned On.
- You can also use this page to add and manage Bluetooth devices.
- Check the Bluetooth device
- Ensure the Bluetooth device (mouse, headset, phone, etc.) is powered on and charged or has fresh batteries.
- Make sure the device is close to the PC (within a few meters).
- Turn the Bluetooth device Off, wait a few seconds, then turn it On again.
- Keep it away from other USB devices connected to USB 3.0 ports, as they can interfere with Bluetooth.
- Make the PC discoverable (if the PC is not seen by other devices)
- Select Start > Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices.
- Select More Bluetooth options (on the right or under Related settings).
- In the Bluetooth Settings dialog, go to the Options tab.
- Check Allow Bluetooth devices to find this PC.
- Turn Bluetooth off and on again
- Select Start > Settings > Bluetooth & other devices.
- Turn Bluetooth Off and wait 10 seconds.
- Turn Bluetooth On again.
- Try pairing the device again.
- Check for Windows updates
- Select Start > Settings > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install all available updates and restart the PC if required.
- Update the Bluetooth driver
- In the taskbar search box, type Device Manager, then select Device Manager.
- Expand Bluetooth and select the Bluetooth adapter (may include the word “radio”).
- Right-click the adapter and select Update driver > Search automatically for updated driver software.
- Complete the wizard and close it.
- Select Start > Power > Restart if prompted, then test Bluetooth again.
- If no newer driver is found, go to the PC manufacturer’s website, download the latest Bluetooth driver, and install it:
- If it is an .exe file, double-click it and follow the setup.
- If it contains .inf and .sys files:
- Open Device Manager.
- Right-click the Bluetooth adapter > Update driver > Browse my computer for driver software.
- Select Browse, choose the folder with the driver files, then OK.
- Select Next and finish the installation.
- Restart the PC and test Bluetooth.
If Bluetooth still does not work after these steps, repeat the troubleshooter in the Get Help app and follow any additional guidance it provides.
