Dear Ray,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A forum.
The error "The supplied kernel information version is invalid" points directly to a problem with how the Routing and Remote Access service is trying to load its authentication modules.
You could try to Reset the EAP Registry Key to fix this issue:
- Press Windows + R, type regedit > Enter.
- In the address bar, copy and paste this path and press Enter:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RasMan\PPP\EAP - Right-click on the
EAPfolder in the left-hand pane and choose Export. Save this specific key as a backup (e.g.,EAP_key_backup.reg) so you can restore it if needed. - With the
EAPfolder still selected, press the Delete key. Confirm the deletion when prompted. - Close the Registry Editor then try again.
Disclaimer: Generally, modifying registry subkeys or work group is intended for advanced users, administrators, and IT Professionals. It can help fix some problems, however, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For further protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click How to back up and restore the registry in Windows - Microsoft Support to view the article.
