It sounds like you are experiencing an issue with your system restarting while filtering in Excel. This could be caused by several factors, including:

    1. Add-ins Interference: Sometimes, Excel add-ins can cause instability. You can try disabling any add-ins to see if that resolves the issue.
    2. Corrupted Excel File: If the file works without issue in other scenarios, it might be worth checking if the specific file has any corruption. Try creating a new file and see if the problem persists.
    3. System Resources: If your system is low on resources (RAM or CPU), it might lead to unexpected behavior. Ensure that your system meets the requirements for running Excel smoothly.
    4. Updates: Ensure that both your Windows operating system and Microsoft Office are fully updated. Sometimes, bugs that cause crashes are fixed in updates.
    5. Repair Office: If the issue continues, consider repairing your Office installation. This can fix any corrupted files that might be causing the problem.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may want to check for any specific error messages or logs that could provide more insight into the cause of the restarts.

    Hello @UMAPATHY

    Welcome to the Q&A Community!

Thank you for contacting us regarding the issue where your system restarts automatically while applying filters in Microsoft Excel (Office 365).

To make sure we're aligned and avoid from any misunderstanding, please let me know a few details about your issue by answering these questions:

    1. Are you signed in with a personal account (e.g., @hotmail.com, @outlook.com), an education account (e.g., @school.edu), or a work account (e.g., @yourcompany.com)?
    2. Does the restart occur only when working with a specific Excel file, or does it happen with any file when applying filters?
    3. Are you currently running the latest version of Microsoft Office 365 and have all Windows updates installed?
    4. Have you tried opening Excel in Safe Mode, and if so, does the issue persist in that mode?
    5. Are there any third-party add-ins or plug-ins installed in Excel?
    6. Have you experienced similar restarts when using other applications, or is this issue isolated to Excel?

While waiting for your confirmation, I recommend that you try the following steps and let me know if the issue persist:

    1. Update Microsoft Office and Windows   In Excel, navigate to File, then Account, select Update Options, and click Update Now.   For Windows, go to Settings, then Update and Security, and check for updates.
    2. Run Excel in Safe Mode   Launch Excel in Safe Mode by pressing the Windows key and R, typing excel /safe, and pressing Enter.   If filtering works correctly in Safe Mode, disable all add-ins by going to File, then Options, then Add-ins.   At the bottom, select Manage COM Add-ins and click Go. Uncheck all add-ins and restart Excel.  For reference: Excel not responding, hangs, freezes or stops working - Microsoft Support
    3. Repair Microsoft Office Installation (for Windows 10 & 11)

Kindly follow the instructions in this article Repair an Office application - Microsoft Support

    1. Test with a Different File

Copy the data from the problematic file into a new workbook and apply filters to determine if the issue is file-specific.

Once you have completed these steps, please share the results along with the answers to the questions above. This will help us determine whether the issue is related to the Excel application, the specific file, or the system itself. If the problem continues, we can proceed with advanced troubleshooting measures.

Thank you for your cooperation. I look forward to resolving this issue promptly.
