    Hi @Gbemisola Jimoh,

Thank you for reaching out regarding the issue you’re encountering while installing Microsoft Project.

To better assist you, could you please confirm the following details:

    1. Which Project product are you trying to install? (Project Online – subscription, or Project Standard/Professional – perpetual versions such as 2016/2019/2021/2024)
    2. How are you installing it (source)? From microsoft365.com / Microsoft 365 portal, or using an offline installer / ISO / deployment package provided by IT
    3. What is the exact error message and/or error code? Please paste the full text or share a screenshot (with any personal information hidden)
    4. What Office apps are already installed on the PC? (e.g., Microsoft 365 Apps / Office 2016/2019/2021, plus any Visio or older Project versions)
    5. Is your Office installed as 32-bit or 64-bit? And are you trying to install Project as 32-bit or 64-bit? (Mixing bit versions isn’t supported)

In the meantime, you may try installing Project by following the guidance below:

Once I have the above information, I’ll be in a better position to assist you further.

Thank you for your time and cooperation. I look forward to your response.

    Warm regards.

Follow these steps to troubleshoot Microsoft Project not installing:

    1. Confirm system requirements
      • Make sure the PC meets the system requirements for the Project version being installed. If the operating system is not supported, the installer can fail or show errors such as “not a valid Win32 application.” Use the system requirements link provided for Project/Office to verify compatibility.
    2. Check licensing and product type
      • Project is a stand‑alone product. For subscription versions (Project Online Professional/Premium), an appropriate license must be assigned before installation options appear. For perpetual versions (Project Professional/Standard 2021, 2019, 2016, 2024, etc.), ensure the correct installer for that edition is being used.
    3. Remove conflicting Office/Project/Visio installations
      • If there are existing Microsoft 365 Apps or other Office/Project/Visio products installed with a different technology (Click‑to‑Run vs Windows Installer), Project setup can fail.
      • Uninstall any preinstalled Microsoft 365/Office/OneNote/Project/Visio from Apps & Features or Programs and Features.
      • If using a volume license for Project 2016 with Microsoft 365 Apps, use the Office Deployment Tool (ODT) and follow the guidance in “Office installed with Click‑to‑Run and Windows Installer on same computer isn't supported.”
    4. If the error mentions another installation in progress (codes like 0‑1018, 17003‑2031, 2035‑0)
      • Restart the computer to clear any pending Office/Project installation.
      • After restart, run the Project installation again.
    5. If using the Office Deployment Tool (ODT)
      • Ensure the configuration XML is correct.
      • If Project files were downloaded with setup.exe /download, add the SourcePath (or equivalent path element) in the configuration XML so setup.exe /configure uses the local files instead of repeatedly downloading from CDN, which can cause the install to stall.
    6. If installation still fails
      • Completely uninstall all Office/Project products using the official uninstall/support tools where available, then reboot and reinstall Project using the correct installer from the account/portal or media associated with the license.

For more precise help, capture the exact error code or message shown when the installation stops and use the Office install troubleshooting article’s error‑specific links.
