I've been trying to create virtual machines for a while now, but no matter what location/image/vm size I select, they all say "The selected image is not valid for the specified location. Please select a different location." I'm not sure if anyone can help but this has been bothering me since that's really all I needed Azure for was the virtual machines.

    Hi!
Did you click to show all available sizes? which region are you trying to build in?

Usually Azure free credits for students enable you to use Azure B Virtual Machines type, You can try use 4 vCPUs or Less too.

how long do you have the subscription? you can use free account for 12 months, try to check the usage through the portal:

On the Azure portal -> Search for subscription in the search box at the top of the portal -> Select the subscription and You'll now see your usage for the free services

Some regions are also showing up as out of quota for some subscription types, try checking availability in other "less used" regions.

Get in touch if you need more help with this issue.

For me the problem was that I registered my student subscription into my formal university account on Microsoft, instead of my personal account. This led to conflicts as I was working in the faculty directory or workspace, which I had no permissions in.

The solution was to sign out of Azure, sign in with my personal account, and walk through the student subscription again. It worked!
