Hi everyone.
This question is too complex for me to just google, so I kindly ask the community for help.
I have a Hyper-V HCI S2D 2-Node on WS2022DC.
I'm trying to setup a 2-Node VM Guest Cluster with General Use File Server Role. Active-Passive Relationship.
VM Node1 runs on Host Node1 and VM Node2 runs on Host Node 2.
Files for both VMs as well the Virtual Drives they share are located on the same S2D CSV Drive (NTFS formatted, labeled 'WarTroll') .
As I understand optimal solution is when Physical Node running 'Master' VM owns this VOLUME.
Ie. VNode1 controls the Shares so HNode1 should own WarTroll.
My first question is if this is correct and is this crucial?
Second question is how to achieve automatic transfer of WarTroll's ownership when FileServer Role is transfered between VMs? I would like to know it even if it's not required as it may be helpful in some other applications later.
Is there a Dependency I can setup or some additional resources and/or roles that I need to add?
Or is it Powershell all the way? I'm fine with any solution, I just need somebody to point proper direction I should go with this.
Thanks in advance!
PS. I have one bonus question that seems simple, yet I can't find unambiguous answer.
In S2D HCI Microsoft recommends to create Volumes in quantity that is a multiple of Nodes. So each Node controls/owns equal amount of Volumes and keep it balanced.
My question is: Do I count it with SDDC? - Since technically I did not create it and it's not assigned to CSV. It's not clear if it should be accounted for when planning the Volumes. And for a 2 Node cluster this question keeps me in a perpetual uncertainty.
(This is a fresh all-NVMe cluster, I can't perceive any change in performance yet.)
