I am unable to reset the password for my Hotmail account on my PC (Windows 11). I have tried using both Microsoft Edge and Chrome in Incognito mode. I have two-step verification enabled and use the Microsoft Authenticator app. The option to reset my password every 72 days is also enabled. The issue arises during the second step of verification - receiving a code via SMS. I consistently receive the error message: "Error Code: 1346 – Try another verification method."

Reproducible Steps:

  1. Go to the Hotmail password reset page.
  2. Enter the account email and proceed to verification.
  3. Choose to receive the verification code via SMS.
  4. Observe the error message: *"*Try another verification method (Error 1346)."

    Hi @Taimoor Janjua

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

It looks like Error Code 1346 is preventing you from receiving the SMS verification code when resetting your Hotmail password. Since you've already tried different browsers and incognito mode, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

-If possible, try verifying your identity using a secondary email address or request a phone call to receive a sign-in code.

-Sometimes, temporary service issues can cause verification errors. Waiting a few hours and trying again, and the issue might resolve itself.

-Clear your browser's cache and cookies, then try the verification process again.

-Attempt the password reset process on another device, such as a mobile phone or tablet.
-For more detailed troubleshooting, you can refer to the Troubleshooting verification code issues - Microsoft Support

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

    Hi @Teddie-D

Thanks for your concern and response!

I was able to successfully reset my password and recover my account (with MFA enabled) using the following methods.

    • By using the OTP code from the Microsoft Authenticator app
    • By leveraging access to my secondary account

"Receive verification code via SMS" option didn’t work for me and consistently resulted in Error 1346..

Hope this helps others in a similar situation!
