Hey there! Nice to meet you!

You mentioned: "I added my phone number to this account last time. But I can not use my phone to receive the code."

If you still have access to your recovery phone number, but you are unable to reset the password due to an error message, please perform these steps to fix the verification method error:

    1. Perform a password reset via Incognito/InPrivate window using different devices and network services.
    2. If it doesn't work, wait exactly 48 hours to reset the password.
    3. If the issue persists, kindly wait exactly 1 week to perform another password reset. The idea is to wait for the account lock to expire first before you reset the password, as stated in this article: https://support.microsoft.com/account-billing/troubleshooting-verification-code-issues-409090c4-92b5-42b9-8ae6-bcc97e62fc48#:~:text=If%20you%20received%20a%20Microsoft%20verification%20code%20that%20you%20did#:~:text=If%20you%20received%20a%20Microsoft%20verification%20code%20that%20you%20did

Important: Please make sure not to attempt to sign in or reset the password within that timeframe (48 hours or 1 week), as this may reset the lock cooldown.

Thank you for your understanding! Please feel free to let me know if you need anything else.

    Best regards,

    Darhyl

Account recovery and unlocking can only be done through Microsoft’s automated tools; personal data such as phone numbers cannot be used directly by support or in public forums.

To try to unlock and restore access to the Hotmail (Microsoft) account:

    1. Go to the Microsoft account sign-in page and try to sign in to the locked account.
    2. When the message appears that the account is locked, follow the prompt to get a security code and unlock it. You can use any phone number that can receive SMS; it does not have to be the one already on the account.
      • Sign in at https://account.microsoft.com via the Sign in link in the article.
      • Request the security code to a phone that can receive text messages.
    3. If the phone cannot receive the code or codes are not arriving, review the verification-code guidance:
      • Avoid repeated requests in a short time, which can cause temporary blocking of code delivery.
      • Check that the number format is correct and that the device can receive SMS and is not blocking unknown senders.
      • If using email as a method, check junk/spam for messages from @accountprotection.microsoft.com.
    4. If the account is locked due to suspicious or policy-violating activity, complete any additional verification steps presented and be prepared to set a new password once the account is unlocked.
    5. If sign-in or unlock still fails, use the Microsoft account recovery process:
      • Use the Recover your account flow described in the “My username and password have stopped working” article to reset the password if the account is recognized.
      • If the account is not recognized or normal reset fails, use the account recovery form referenced in the Q&A answers (ACSR) from a familiar device and network, providing as much accurate historical information as possible (old passwords, contacts, subject lines, etc.).
    6. If Outlook.com specifically reports the mailbox is blocked, use the Outlook.com unblock flow via the Sign-in Helper referenced in the Outlook.com article.
    7. If all self-service options fail, contact Microsoft Support using another Microsoft account (or a newly created one) as described in the Q&A excerpts, and select an account-recovery or manage-account-security path to reach a support agent. Note that for consumer accounts, agents cannot bypass security or unlock accounts without successful verification through the official processes.

Do not post personal phone numbers or other sensitive data in public forums; use only the official Microsoft pages and forms linked from the support articles.
