Export multi-page document, with a combination of landscape and portrait pages, to PDF

I have a document with 10 pages, and several of them are in landscape orientation (the majority are portrait). I would like to export this entire document to PDF, although the two known methods within Word (Save As..., and Print to PDF) return insufficient results:

  • "Save As... PDF" produces a PDF file with only the first two pages (which are portrait; the third page is landscape). No further PDF files are produced, so I cannot combine multiple files into one after the fact.
  • "Print" and subsequently, "Open PDF in Preview", produces multiple PDF files; a new one every time the orientation of a page changes.

Now, I have resorted to a drag-and-drop method of combining these multiple PDF files within Preview, although I assume that a more elegant, automatic solution is possible (from within Word).

Thank you

Since Daniel hasn't come back yet:

The issue with PDF's has been on going for minimum of 15 years. And, naturally the main Players in the issue is Adobe (the main Culprit) and Apple and Microsoft which Adobe has been throwing the blame on to for years. Its Adobe's responsibility to fix the issue, but they have abdicated their responsibility by shift blame onto Apple and Microsoft.  Apple use the PDF system for much of the video sub system in OSX and follows to the letter, the Guidelines which Adobe wrote and put in public domain for anyone to use. And they blame Microsoft claiming they can not figure out MS system related to Page orientation, Page Breaks, and Section Breaks. (yet much of the same Code  – up until Office Preview 2016 – is written in Binary Code  that has used since Office has existed on any platform. The only differences is in User Interface of the system. Underneath UI much of the code is identical. and with the advent of the XML Formatting the binary code is placed in a XML Wrapper. So much that is identical except for UI differences.)

Since, Adobe has stuck their head in the sand and refuses to fix the problem it's up to Apple and MS to come up with a solution. Of course as with all Large software companies, they refuse to cooperate, and work together to come up with a solution.  So we have to deal with workarounds.

On the Second question the MVP is an acronym for Microsoft Valuable Persons

Its open to people that have shown extensive knowledge and experience in their field of expertise. And they must be suggested or invited by a(nother) person(s). They can accept can or accept or refuse the invitation. With such title They get access to:

  1. A storehouse (Database) of information not available to general public.
  2. Must go by a Set of Guidelines.
  3. They have to meet with in some form

(Travel to MS campus, conference calls or, over the Internet with the heads of the MVP Program at MS. periodically.)

It not  just some Feel Good title handed out as some type of reward. It's a very serious program. They are considered the "Super Users" of all super users.

No, you cannot do it within Word, as it splits PDFs at page differences.

This has, as you suspect, been covered before:

  1. An AppleScript and a downloadable Automator flow
  2. A description of how to combine PDFs in Preview (although for Mavericks, not Yosemite)

I'm sure there were others.

Probably the easiest course would be using the Automator flow, which should still work as a drag and drop application.

Is this a known issue? Or is it just something that is accepted as non-functioning? Maybe it's too difficult to implement a mechanism that exports documents with multiple page orientations into one single PDF? I don't really know.

Anyway, thank you for the links, and for the prompt response (also, what does your "MVP" badge mean?)
