Authentication required for the server - Office 2016 -

Hello,

When using one of the Microsoft Office 2016 application for the Mac (Preview), I’m randomly prompt to authentification  (a very clean pop-up windows that requests "Authentication required for the server: office15client.microsoft.com")

  1. I cannot use the appliction (even with a document open in background) unless I deal with the “pop-up"
  2. This happens only in the Corporate Network (the is a proxy) - never at home.
  3. If I click on cancel the prompt goes away, and come back (3 times generally)
  4. If I try to authenticate I’m always re-prompt with the same “pop-up” without any error message (I’ve tried up to 6 times …)

Thanks in advance to anyone that could help.

Hi. I am a teacher in Victoria and have been having the same annoying problem. But I think I fixed it. All I did was to add this "office15client.microsoft.com" (without the quotes) in the proxy bypass under network settings and it stopped showing that pop up window. I am using MAC by the way. Hope this helps.

    Cheers.

I had the same issue. The adding office15client.microsoft.com in proxy bypass worked

I tested also this (adding the "office15client.microsoft.com" (without the quotes) in the proxy bypass) and it seems to do the job.

I also add "omextemplates.content.office.net", for which the prompt appears when you create a new document (in order to show templates coming from the web).

Of course this means we are not getting these "nice" web feature (form  "office15client.microsoft.com" or "omextemplates.content.office.net") as the mac is not able to connect to those ... I'm not able to connect without a proxy. But it solves the buggy request for credentials, nice.

MS, please implement a function to disable this unwanted behaviour to connect to the internet, for example on this manner:

    1. Open your Office program, say, Word.
    2. Click File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings
    3. Click on Privacy Options from the left pane.
    4. Untick the check box before "Allow Office to connect to the Internet"

Im Trying to solve this problem, but I dont find these options on any Office program

I see that you have also posted a question in the technet form. This error is likely because you are using a proxy server. To resolve the issue on windows office with such errors there is an option for connecting office to internet but I dont see or find that option on mac office. I can only think of turning the proxy server off.
