How do I force the Word app to forget 'Connected Services' on Android?

Could somebody please help me find a solution to the problem I'm encountering, described below?

Steps to reproduce:

  • Sign into Word app using Office 365 account.
  • Connect a new service via 'Open other documents' -> 'Add a place'. In my case, I added our company SharePoint 365 site.
  • Confirm that SharePoint documents are accessible.
  • Remove SharePoint 'Place' by going to Settings and clicking the appropriate cross under 'Connected Services'.
  • Close the app by swiping it away in the tasks view.
  • Re-open the app and notice that the SharePoint site is still not present under 'Connected Services' (good and expected).
  • Reset Office by clicking the 'Reset' button in Settings.
  • Sign back into the Word app with the same account and notice that the SharePoint site has reappeared under 'Connected Services' (bad and unexpected).
  • Remove SharePoint 'Place' again.
  • Reset Office again by clicking the 'Reset' button in Settings.
  • Sign back into the Word app with a differentaccount and notice that the SharePoint site has, once again, reappeared under 'Connected Services' (very bad and unexpected).
  • Remove SharePoint 'Place' again.
  • Reset Office again.
  • Instead of signing in again, close the app by swiping it away in the tasks view.
  • Go to App Info for the Word app and 'Clear Data' (which also clears the cache).
  • Open Office again.
  • Sign in with either account and notice that the SharePoint site is still there(extremely bad!).

I'd prefer to solve this by using any standard Android settings and applications, if possible, but can also employ developer options (e.g., ADB) if necessary. I'm running Android KitKat 4.4.4.

    Hi Atomic,

    Thanks for your updates.

After doing more tests on different Android phones, finally I find it’s a normal behavior that the “Connected Services” will come back when signing into Office apps such as Word app, Excel app or PowerPoint app again.

About your requirement to force forget “Connected Services” on Android, We welcome and encourage you to share your ideas through Uservoice. Understanding your experience helps us to make our product and service better for you and others.

    Best Regards,

    Kerwin

Thanks for your help Kerwin, although I'm a little disappointed that this is expected behaviour!

    Hi Kerwin,

    Thanks for your response.

The device relating to the initial description of the issue is a rooted Minix Neo Z-64.

    In answer to your questions:

    1. The issue persists on another rooted Minix Neo Z-64.
    2. After your suggestion, I've tried both Excel and PowerPoint and the issue remains.
    3. I first tested with just Word and Excel (so PowerPoint had never been installed on the device). I reset Office from Word, force-stopped both Word and Excel, cleared data for both, uninstalled both, removed the Office account in Android Settings, then installed PowerPoint, signed in as the same user, and the SharePoint service was still connected.

I've additionally tested using an HTC One M8 running Android 5.0.2. I signed in and it retrieved the SharePoint connected service automatically. I have never used any Office app or this Office 365 account on this phone, so this tells me that the Connected Services are being stored remotely. Is this information that needs to be erased through Office 365 administration?

    Hi Atomic,

Having done the test as you have described, we find the SharePoint site will not be shown again after resetting. Given the situation, I’d like to confirm the following information:

    1. Use your account in another Android phone to see if this issue persists. This will help us confirm if this issue is related to the phone itself.
    2. Have you tried the steps in Excel or PowerPoint app to check the outcome?
    3. Did you meet this issue again after re-installing the word app?

Please let us know any updates when you are free, we’ll continue following up on this thread.

    Thanks,

    Kerwin

Removing the Office account from the 'Accounts' list in Android 'Settings' also doesn't solve the issue.
