Synchronous Scrolling

I have been attempting to use the Synchronous Scrolling feature on two new pcs.  I can bring up two documents and use the side by side feature, yet when I click and the Synchronous Scrolling, nothing happens.  The Synchronous Scrolling is not greyed out, but I get no response from clicking the button.  Is there a known problem or is there something I am doing incorrect?  Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem, The problem in my case was one for one document was view mode One Page and another document had view mode multiple pages. I set the view mode to One page for both the documents and then selected

View side by side and then select synchronous scrolling. It worked.

Using office365 and win8.1 my issue was that the synch scroll buttons were greyed out with two docs open.

In either open doc when I clicked on the "SWITCH WINDOWS" button right beside Sync scroll, the drop down only showed that one doc was open.  This  led me to believe that I actually had two instances of WORD running and neither instance knew the other was open.

I closed one doc and opened that same doc but from within word by slecting file and opening there, rather than selecting both files in explorer and hitting enter.  Once I did that, all scrolling etc was available

I had a similar problem -- two documents side by side in Print View with Page Width selected.  However, one had comments and other did not.  That led me to discover that Synchronous Scrolling works only if the documents are at the same Zoom magnification.  As soon as I set the documents to One Page or 100% or 130%, synchronized scrolling worked just fine.

    1. Minimize all your active windows except the two you want to Synchronous Scroll.
    2. Right mouse click on the Windows task bar and select "Show windows side by side."
    3. Activate the Synchronous Scrolling options from within Word (View Tab)

(FYI, I'm using Office 2013 and Windows 8.)

My Synchronous Scrolling works, as shown in this screen print:

Here a few ideas you might try to get your Synchronous Scrolling to work:

[1]  Try clicking the Synchronous Scrolling button two times.  Sometimes for me, as I experimented with Synchronous Scrolling, in my Word 2013 installation, it required me to click the Synchronous Scrolling button two times (I suppose that maybe the first click got the focus on the window, and the second click pressed the Synchronous Scrolling button).

[2]  Check to see if your PC is set up for Dual Monitors, but you only have one monitor attached to your computer.  In that case, I suppose it is possible for one of the two Word windows to be thrown over to your second monitor (which if this theory is correct, is not connected to your PC).  To get to the settings for Dual Monitors:

If you have Windows 7, right-click on the desktop, and click on Screen Resolution.  I am not sure how this is done in Windows 8 (maybe some other reader of this post could help with that, if need be).
