Hi,

I am using the Word 2016 preview, and wonder what the shortcut for inserting an equations is? The old SHIFT+CMD+0 doesn't work anymore, and since i use this heavily, I would really like to know what the new shortcut (if any is available) is.

Kind regards.

To answer your original question about shortcuts...

I have Microsoft Word 2016 for Mac.

The default shortcut I currently have to insert an equation is:

    Control + "=" + "-"

    Hope that helps!

    Derek

Well, my purpose isn't to argue with you :-) I'm simply reporting my findings based on a pristine user account I maintain strictly for the purpose of verifying default settings & Preferences. In 2008, 2011 & the beta, neither of the shortcuts you mentioned originally nor the Ctrl+Command+0 combination are used for any command in either version. I'm not doubting what you report, but assuming you're right it has to be due to someone or something* having assigned it at one time or another. [*Add-ins such as MathType often bring their own keyboard shortcuts along with them, but at this point add-ins aren't supported in the beta software.]

The built-in keyboard shortcut to insert an equation in Word 2011 is Control+=, which also works in the beta. [Actually, the keystroke is assigned to the EquationToggle command, but it actually serves to insert a new equation.]

If you want to create a custom keystroke, use the instructions in Word Help on the subject:

![](https://www.bing.com/fd/ls/GLinkPing.aspx?IG=a1ce055d3c5f475fabdfda7f08fe0793&CID=26483B04A22067E906693C93A3CC6665&ID=DevEx,5085.1)Create or delete a keyboard shortcut

The procedure in the beta is the same as in Word 2011. Select All Commands from the Categories list, then assign the custom shortcut to either the EquationToggle or the EquationInsert (not InsertEquation) command.

Footnote: I sincerely hope you aren't relying on the beta software for meaningful work :-)

I landed on this page because I used to use the exact same shortcut (Ctrl-Cmd-0) to insert equations in Word for Mac 2011. Now I'm using Word 2016 on a Windows machine and need to find the same shortcut. (Need really isn't too strong a word!)

It was a thing! A real thing!

Hi Bob. Thanks for your reply!

When I mean "old" i mean Word 2011.

I'm sorry; I made a mistake. The shortcut is Ctrl+Command+0 (zero). I didn't assign the shortcut, and I can use it on any other Mac, running Word 2011, so when you say there isn't any built-in keyboard shortcut, i get confused.

Anyway! Is there a way for me to assign a shortcut in Word 2016 then? :-)

I'm not sure what you mean by "old", but I just checked in Word 2011 & Word 2008.

In Word 2001 both Shift+Command+O (letter O) & Shift+Command+0 (zero) are unassigned keyboard shortcuts.

In Word 2011, Shift+Command+O is assigned to FileOpenFromServer by default & Shift+Command+0 is unassigned.

In neither version is there a built-in keyboard shortcut assigned to the InsertEquation command. Perhaps you assigned it as a custom keyboard shortcut?
