hyperlink cannot open specified file while linking in same file

I would like to make a clickable content page for a presentation in PowerPoint 2010. For this I created a page wich includes several objects I would like to use as clickable linking to other slides in the same presentation.

To do this I selected the object (just a rectangle) and selected "hyperlink" -> Place in This document -> selected the slide

When trying to click the object i get the error message: "Cannot open specified file"

After some reading on internet i tried:

  • Changing transparancy of the object from no fill to 100% filled, 100% and 99% transparancy
  • Doing the same, only following: Insert -> Action -> Hyperlink to: -> Slide
  • The slide i link to has a title which contains only letters (so no # or  commas)
  • Disabled all background graphics, fillings, pictures etc.
  • Tried the same with a text box (so not a rectangle object)

In all cases I keep getting the same error.

Does anybody has a suggestion what I can do to fix this?

Long shot!

File > Info

In the right pane click the drop arrow PROPERTIES and choose Advanced Properties.

In the summary tab is the Hyperlink base box empty??

I had this problem when trying to create a hyperlink to MP4 files.  One worked but the other eight did not, all on the same slide.  The eight files that did not open via hyperlink all had a # in their file name and once I removed the # the hyperlink worked.

You're replying to a very old set of messages and possibly with a different problem than the messages deal with.

Suggestion:  create a NEW question and include details on what you're trying to do, provide the EXACT text of any error messages you see.  "Cannot open specified box" isn't a PPT error message, so far as I know.
