hyperlink cannot open specified file while linking in same file

I would like to make a clickable content page for a presentation in PowerPoint 2010. For this I created a page wich includes several objects I would like to use as clickable linking to other slides in the same presentation.

To do this I selected the object (just a rectangle) and selected "hyperlink" -> Place in This document -> selected the slide

When trying to click the object i get the error message: "Cannot open specified file"

After some reading on internet i tried:

  • Changing transparancy of the object from no fill to 100% filled, 100% and 99% transparancy
  • Doing the same, only following: Insert -> Action -> Hyperlink to: -> Slide
  • The slide i link to has a title which contains only letters (so no # or  commas)
  • Disabled all background graphics, fillings, pictures etc.
  • Tried the same with a text box (so not a rectangle object)

In all cases I keep getting the same error.

Does anybody has a suggestion what I can do to fix this?

Long shot!

File > Info

In the right pane click the drop arrow PROPERTIES and choose Advanced Properties.

In the summary tab is the Hyperlink base box empty??

Thank you very much, you put me on the right track!

In the summary tab the Hyperlink Base Box was not empty, it contained the website of my company. By removing it, the hyperlinks are working.

    Thanks again!

This is baffling -- but here's a question to get started -- does this happen with all PowerPoint files you create, or only with this particular one you are working with?

Also, does this file have many other links already in place that do work?

Do get back and let us know -- have a great day.
