Activating Power Query Editor in Excel for Mac

According to this Microsoft Support page and various third party sources, Excel for Mac users should be able to activate Power Query Editor assuming they have opted into the Office Insider Program. I have followed these instructions to opt into the Insider program by setting my Update Channel to Beta, which apparently should enable me to download the additional features to activate Power Query Editor. However, after running Microsoft AutoUpdate, it says that Excel is fully up-to-date on my computer and there are no options for me to download these additional features.

Is anyone else running Excel for Mac experiencing similar issues? Has anyone found a solution?

I am running Microsoft Excel version 16.62. I have the most up-to-date version of Mac OS. According to all Microsoft documentation on this topic, I should be able to access these features, so I'm not sure what's going wrong.

Please refer to your screen shot. The first menu option is Get Data (PowerQuery).

This will open the Choose Data Source dialog. Choose a connector, then find the source file using the Browse button in the next step. Then click the Get Data button followed by the Next button.

In the following dialog choose the tables you want in the left column, then click the Transform data button. This will open the PowerQuery Editor.

When you've finished your query, click the Load button.

Once you have your query result set you can re-open the PowerQuery Editor from the Data tab on the Ribbon.

    Good afternoon.

No, it doesn't look like I would expect.

There are actually several queries. Each one runs against a single worksheet table, shaping the data. Then a final query combines them all into one consolidated dataset for analysis and reporting. I would expect to see each query's unique name (that I gave it when I created it), but here's the screenshot. I tried widening the "Description" column, but all it says is "Connection to", nothing further. And I don't see any option for editing anything, even when I right-click on each one.

BTW, I love PowerQuery. Would have saved me so many hours over the years. Really hope I can get it fully functional in Excel for Mac.

    Thx, rink.

    Good morning.

I have Excel for Mac, Version 16.64, with a MS Office 365 subscription. Installed on a new MacBook Pro in June. And I don't have the option to Open PowerQuery Editor. Has that moved from the office insider phase to complete rollout?

The blog Neha linked above was very helpful. One of the tips said to sign out of your microsoft account. Close it all down. Log back in. This did the trick for me!

    Dear TxabiGS96,

Greetings! Thank you for posting in Microsoft forum.

I understand you are a Microsoft 365 subscriber and have V16.62, still Get Data (Power Query) is not visible. In this blog (comments section), some customers mentioned some suggestions that helped them resolve the issue, please check the blog and see if this works for you too.

If the issue remains, please provide us with the screenshot of About Excel prompt and the Data tab. To get the screenshot, open Excel, go to the Excel menu and choose About Excel.

    Regards,

    Neha
