    Dear EG1595,

    Thanks for your updates.

Generally, In Exchange Online organizations or standalone Exchange Online Protection (EOP) organizations without Exchange Online mailboxes, you can inspect email attachments by setting up mail flow rules (also known as transport rules). Mail flow rules allow you to examine email attachments as a part of your messaging security and compliance needs. When you inspect attachments, you can then take action on the messages based on the content or characteristics of the attachments.

The article is about the attachments in the Microsoft 365 DLP. The files extensions are applied to the attachments as well.

You can check the Supported file types for mail flow rule content inspection part.

Thanks for your effort and time!

    Sincerely,

    Dear EG1595,

    Welcome to the forum here.

For the email part, you can use mail flow rules to inspect message attachments in Exchange Online. The supported file types are listed in Use mail flow rules to inspect message attachments in Exchange Online | Microsoft Learn.

For the SharePoint Online part, DLP evaluates any content that can be indexed. For more information on what file types are crawled by default, see Default crawled file name extensions and parsed file types in SharePoint Server.

For the Teams file part, it may be applied to the SharePoint Online rule.
