    Hello Byron,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

To insert a linked Excel file in PowerPoint on Microsoft Teams, you can follow these steps:

    1. Get the Excel link in Teams by going to the channel where the file is stored and selecting More options > Get link.
    2. Add the link to the presentation. In PowerPoint, on the Insert tab, click or tap Object. In the Insert Object dialog box, select Create from file. Click or tap Browse, and in the Browse box, find the Excel workbook with the data you want to insert and link to. Before you close the Insert Object box, select Link, and click OK.
    3. You should now be able to open the linked PowerPoint/Excel files from the PowerPoint tab.

To update the linked Excel file in PowerPoint, you can follow these steps:

    1. Open the PowerPoint presentation that contains the linked Excel file.
    2. Click the File tab in the Ribbon and select Edit Links to Files or click Edit Links to Files in the Quick Access Toolbar. The Links dialog box appears.
    3. Click the link you want to update and click Update now.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

    Regards,

    Prince R

Thanks Prince. If I used SharePoint, would I have the functionality then? or would I have the same issues?

The issues are I have a collaborative environment where excel is being updated and I would like those changes reflected in the power point.

Do you have any suggestions on how to obtain this functionality?

    Hello Byron,

    Thanks for your response.

To link an Excel file in a PowerPoint presentation within Teams, you can follow these steps:

    1. Get the Excel link in Teams: Go to the channel where the Excel file is stored. Select More options > Get link.
    2. Add the link to the PowerPoint presentation: In the PowerPoint presentation, you can add the link to the Excel file.

However, please note that this method will only insert a link to the Excel file, not the actual live table1. If you want to display a live table from Excel in PowerPoint, you might need to use the desktop versions of these apps.

In the desktop version of PowerPoint, you can link an entire Excel worksheet or a section of data in Excel to PowerPoint2. After you’ve inserted linked Excel data into a presentation, you can easily update it in your PowerPoint presentation by right-clicking the data and selecting Update Link.

Unfortunately, the web versions of PowerPoint and Excel currently do not support the ability to insert a live Excel table into a PowerPoint presentation. You might want to consider using the desktop versions of these apps if you need this functionality.

    Hope this helps!
