How do I unblock macros that are blocked because the source of the file is untrusted?

When I open any Word document I previously created, the file opens but a red banner above reads: “SECURITY RISK Microsoft has blocked macros from running because the source of this file is untrusted.” All these documents were created by me on this PC using a template I’ve maintained and used for many years. I do use the template macros I’ve created constantly. When I go to Developer > Macro Settings, “Enable all macros” is already selected.

    Hello TonyAmico,

I'm Segunfunmi, an Independent Advisor and Microsoft user like you. Thank you for posting your query in this forum.

I understand that you're facing the "Microsoft has blocked macros from running because the source of this file is untrusted" warning issue. As an Independent Advisor and Microsoft user, I can help you with this.

To address this issue, you can follow the below steps:

    1. Check the Trust Center Settings:
    • Click on the File tab in Word.
    • Select Options at the bottom of the left bar.
    • In the left-side pane, choose Trust Center, and then click Trust Center Settings.
    • In the Trust Center dialog box, click Macro Settings on the left.
    • Select "Enable all macros" and click OK.
    1. Unblock the File:
    • Close the workbook.
    • Right-click on the workbook file.
    • Select Properties.
    • Under the General tab, ensure that you check the Unblock box in the Security section.
    • Click Apply.
    • Now open the workbook again, and the error message should disappear.

Don't forget to save your changes after adjusting the settings. If you need any further assistance, feel free to ask.

    Kind regards, Segunfunmi.

It is NEVER a good idea to enable all macros!

This setting should be used only on a system that is isolated for testing purposes.

Disable all macros with notification should serve the same purposes for ordinary use.

It will allow macros that are trusted to run, without notification. Those that are disabled by this setting can be enabled one at a time by the user.

Unfortunately there's no unblock box to check.
