Object data can no longer be displayed in newer versions

Hello everyone,

Back then, we created our room occupancy using Visio (2007).

There the room shape was filled with VBA code.

An ID was inserted in the Room Shape under Object Data at Data3,

based on the room number, square meter and the one on the database

deposited employee was entered.

The problem is that under the newer Visio versions, for example v2016

the Object Data window can no longer be found.

In the 2007 version you simply right-click on the shape -> Format -> Object data

can open the window.Bild

In the newer versions this can no longer be found in the "context menu / mouse menu",

but hopefully it's still hidden somewhere in the programm menu.

I would be very grateful for any tips =)

Best regards

Jonas

Don't worry -- the data you're looking for is still available even though it's no longer accessible via the right-click context menu.

The first thing you need to do is turn on the Developer Tabon the Visio ribbon.

In your case it looks like the Developer tab might already be on because I see "ShapeSheet anzeigen" at the top of the right-click menu in your screenshot.

With the Developer Tab active, select a shape then on the Developer Tab, select the Shape Name button.

Two thoughts:

  1. If you have the ability to change the structure of your diagrams, I think it might make more sense to store your data in Shape Data fields rather than in the Data 1/2/3 fields. Shape Data is more readily accessible via the Visio user interface, for example, you can open the Shape Data window by right-clicking any shape and selecting Data>Shape Data.
  2. If you prefer to maintain your diagrams as they are, but would prefer context menu access to the Object Data window, it is possible to add a command to the right-click menu to open that window. Doing so requires a bit of work, but I can help with that if you're interested.
