I've got a Samsung s23 ultra. The Microsoft authenticator app is no where on my phone. I've used the search function to find it and doesn't show up. I can only access it by going to the galaxy store and going to the app there & selecting open, it does not show up on google play. Is there a way to put the app icon back on my phone?

I was having the same issue with my Samsung 20 FE. I first uninstalled the Microsoft Authenticator App and then updated the "Home screen" settings by 'turning on' the "Show Apps screen button to Home screen" and "Add new apps to Home screen" options and then reinstalled the Microsoft Authenticator App. This video helped me solve the issue.

    Steps:

    Uninstall the Microsoft Authenticator App

On the phone go to Settings

    Search "Home screen"

Select the radio button next to the "Show Apps screen button on Home screen"

Select the radio button next to the "Add new apps to Home screen"

    Reinstall the Microsoft Authenticator App

The icon should appear on your Home screen. This worked for me, and I hope you have success with it too.
