Hi,

I've been working with hundreds of presentations using YouTube videos and had no trouble with ads till now (8/5/24).

I have a Premium YouTube account and have spoken with tech support at YouTube and Microsoft. The problem remains unresolved.

Help!
Alyson

This bug replicates across multiple machines on win10 and win11 and multiple, PC based, versions of powerpoint.

The problem is that microsoft uses some random or guest account to play youtube vids not the premier user ID embedded in the youtube share link.

There is no filtering whatever. I have seen condom and Canesten adds in material intended for children.

    This is a safeguarding issue.

In an earlier post or a link in an earlier post, there was information from YouTube, where they stated that they will serve ads to any videos linked to a third-party application. That pretty well puts the fickle finger of blame on them. Why the ads don't show up in other situations (Google slides, etc) is unclear; perhaps because they don't see other web apps as third party applications. Seems to fit that pattern, though.

    Hi,

Sorry you’re having the same problem. It’s thrown s huge wrench in my planning for fall semester at a the music school where I teach.

I don’t know if anyone is actually following up on this.

I’ve been in chats with a couple Microsoft people and they know the problem is unresolved. I think the responsibility is more in the hands of YouTube. Someone I spoke to there said the ads in 3rd party aps are as intended.

    Onward,

    Dear alyson lie,

Thank you for your patient update.

As per your description, this issue occurred in new profile and PowerPoint online without the same issue, and the URL changed. This issue may be due to some conflict between the PowerPoint client and YuTube. I'm afraid this issue needs to be investigated from the backend side via remote assistance and collect the background logs. As this Forum community has limited resources, the backend support team there has more permission than us, they have more resources to investigate the issue from the backend, they have Escalate channel to escalate your issue to check more and collect log reports for the root cause.

For your reference: Get support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn

In the meanwhile, I also recommend you report this issue to Youtube Support.

And also send feedback from within PowerPoint > Help menu > Feedback > Report a problem. Feedback submit by this way directly goes to the related team. This is the way to let the developers know this issue and help to investigate it.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

    Sincerely,

    Dear alyson lie,

    Thank you for patient update.

As we need to continue troubleshooting whether the issue is caused by the PowerPoint client or by YuTube itself, I recommend you try inserting a YuTube video into PowerPoint Online or other third-party application to see if the ads appear.

I noticed that you mentioned this issue occurred suddenly, for further troubleshooting please create the new profile in Windows and check if the as appear. Reference for you: Manage user accounts in Windows - Microsoft Support

Furthermore, may I know if you access YouTube via VPN? And if there is any difference between the URL of the video on YuTube and the URL you inserted on the PowerPoint?

Thank you for your time and patience.

    Sincerely,

    Claire | Microsoft Community Moderator
