Managing personal Outlook.com account settings, security, and privacy
Hi Ben Subler,
Thank you for posting to Microsoft Q&A Forum.
Your account is currently flagged as a child account (under 13), which restricts access to certain features like downloading apps from the Microsoft Store. Since your birthdate was entered incorrectly, the system thinks you are 5 years old.
1. Try Updating Your Birthdate
- Go to your Microsoft Account Profile Info page
- Sign in and click “Edit profile info”
- Try to update your birthdate and save changes
If you are blocked from editing it, continue to Step 2.
2. Add an Adult Account to Microsoft Family
Microsoft requires parental consent to manage child accounts. Here is how to fix it:
- Go to Microsoft Family Safety | Microsoft 365
- Sign in with an adult Microsoft account (you can create one if needed)
- Add your current account to the family group
- From the adult account, manage your profile and permissions
3. Contact Microsoft Support
If the above steps do not work, you’ll need help from a live agent:
- Visit Microsoft Support Microsoft Support
- Type “change birthdate” in the search bar
- Scroll down and click “Contact Support”
Choose:
- Product: Other Products
- Category: Billing and Account Profile questions
- Select “Chat with a support agent in your web browser”
Once connected, explain that your birthdate was entered incorrectly and you are unable to download from the store due to age restrictions.
