Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.
I understand your frustration at the moment regarding the error "Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013 Configuration did not complete successfully". This often occurs after a Windows update, a program conflict, or due to corrupted Office files.
Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve it:
Run a Quick Repair (Online Repair if Available)
This is the most straightforward first step and often resolves installation corruption.
- Press Windows Key + R, type appwiz.cpl, and press Enter to open your installed programs list.
- Locate Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013 in the list.
- Select it and click Change.
- Choose Quick Repair and then click Repair. The process may take some time.
- If the quick repair fails, try the Online Repair option if it's available, as it does a more thorough job by re-downloading files. Restart your computer after the repair completes.
Run Word or Excel as an Administrator
Sometimes, the configuration process lacks the necessary permissions to complete.
- Click the Windows Start button and type winword (for Word) or excel (for Excel).
- In the search results, right-click on the application and select Run as administrator.
- If prompted, enter an administrator password. This elevated permission can allow the configuration to finish successfully.
Disable Add-ins in Safe Mode
Third-party add-ins can interfere with Office's startup and configuration.
- Hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard and double-click a Word or Excel shortcut. Keep holding Ctrl until you see a prompt asking if you want to start in Safe Mode.
- Click Yes. If the application opens without the error in Safe Mode, an add-in is likely the cause.
- Within the application, go to File > Options > Add-Ins.
- At the bottom of the window, next to "Manage:", select COM Add-ins and click Go....
- Disable all the add-ins listed, restart the application normally, and then re-enable them one by one to identify the culprit.
Check Antivirus and Firewall Settings
Security software can sometimes quarantine or block essential Office files from running, especially during updates.
- Temporarily disable your antivirus and firewall software (be sure to re-enable them afterwards).
- Try opening Word or Excel again. If it works, you need to add exceptions for your Office applications in your security software's settings.
