    Hi geemeth perera,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A!

Thanks for sharing the details and the screenshot. I understand how alarming it is to wake up and find your laptop stuck at 100% with a system crash, especially after leaving it on overnight for a download. This error typically points to a corrupted system file or driver, as well as a faulty update. Here's something you should do to fix the issue (follow step by step):

    1. Force shutdown the laptop by holding power button > turn the laptop on
    2. Force shutdown again once you see the laptop manufacturer's logo
    3. Repeat the steps above a few times to trigger Windows RE
    4. Often on the fourth time > Automatic Repair blue screen appears
    5. Choose an option > Troubleshoot > Advanced options > then try the following in order:

    A - Use the built-in troubleshooter:

    • Click Startup Repair > wait for it to finish
    • Reboot your laptop to see if the issue persists.

B - Boot into Safe Mode (if option A failed):

    • In Advanced Options > Click Startup Settings > Restart > Safe Mode (F4)
    • If you can boot into Safe Mode:
      • Open Device Manager > check for any warning icons.
      • Uninstall any recently added software, updates or drivers that may have triggered the crash (opening Settings, check Apps and Windows Update > Update History)
      • Run a clean boot to diagnose the conflict: How to perform a clean boot in Windows

C - Run diagnostics and file checker:

    • In Advanced Options > Click Command Prompt > Enter the following:
      • sfc /scannow
      • DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    • If nothing found, run sfc /scannow /offbootdir=C:\ /offwindir=C:\Windows

D - Restore your PC back to a point when it was working (if available):

    • In Advanced Options > Click System Restore
    • Choose a restore point before the crash occurs (e.g. yesterday)

If you cannot fix the system and need to recover your files, you may have to click reset your PC. There's a Keep my files option which will help you reinstall Windows while still preserving your personal files in a folder on the C:\ drive. This is not a perfect guarantee, so it should be a last resort.
