How to activate the Office 2024 offline

First of all, activation ensures your Office installation is fully licensed and secure. The steps differ depending on the type of license you purchased, so identifying this first will save time and prevent unnecessary complications.

Scenario 1: Retail Licenses (e.g., Office Home & Business, Home & Student)

• These licenses require an internet connection for the initial activation.
• After activation, Office can operate offline for extended periods, but it will occasionally need to reconnect for license validation.
• Unfortunately, full offline activation is not supported for retail licenses. If your purchase from the Microsoft eStore is a retail license, you will need to provide temporary internet access during activation.

However, here are some practical options to complete activation:

• Temporary Internet Access: Connect the device to the internet just for the activation process. Once activated, Office can work offline for extended periods, though occasional online checks may still be required.
• Use a Mobile Hotspot or Tethering: If your environment does not allow wired internet, consider using a secure mobile hotspot or tethering from a phone for the short activation period.

Scenario 2: Volume Licenses (Office LTSC 2024)

If your organization purchased through a Volume Licensing Service Center (VLSC) or has an Enterprise Agreement, it’s Volume (LTSC). This edition is designed for secure or air-gapped environments and supports offline activation.

• To configure and deploy Office LTSC 2024, within your organization, you'll use the Office Deployment Tool (ODT). The ODT provides flexibility and control, allowing you to customize and manage installations according to your specific needs.
  • The installation files for Office LTSC 2024 are available on the Office Content Delivery Network (CDN) on the internet.
  • You can install Office LTSC 2024 directly from the Office CDN. Or, you can download the installation files from the Office CDN to a location on your local network, such as a shared folder, and install Office LTSC 2024 from that location. You can use different methods for different sets of devices in your organization. Whichever method you choose, you use the ODT.
