After connected to Virtual Desktop, the microphone in Teams set to remote audio and there's no sound when I talk in the meetings. How can this be solved?

Hello @Rebecca Ishihara (VML and Ogilvy Japan GK

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

To better assist you, I’d like to confirm a few details to better understand your environment:

  1. Which Virtual Desktop environment are you using? Azure Virtual Desktop, Citrix, VMware Horizon, or Windows 365 Cloud PC...
  2. Does your microphone and speaker work correctly outside of the Virtual Desktop session?
  3. Check for Media Permission in Teams

If media optimizations are loaded, the audio devices and cameras available locally will appear in the Teams device menu.

If the menu only shows Remote audio, quit the Teams app and restart it. If devices still don’t appear, check your local PC privacy settings:

  • Go to Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone
  • Ensure Let apps access your microphone is toggled On

Disconnect from the remote session, reconnect, and check again. If media optimizations don’t load at all, uninstall and reinstall Teams, then verify again.

Additional Note: In some cases, there might be conflicts with other applications using the microphone. Please try disabling microphone access for apps that do not require it, then reconnect to your Azure Virtual Desktop session and check if the issue persists.

  1. Are you using the optimized version of Microsoft Teams for VDI (with the VDI optimization plugin installed)?

Here how to check:

  • Open Teams, click Settings > About > Version
  • If optimized, you should see “Optimized” in the banner.
